Songwriter Workshop

The next meeting is June 24.

Songwriter Critique via Zoom. Please send us a message via the contact form below or join the Meetup Group to receive an invite to the meeting.

GOAL:  Quality feedback is valuable and hard to find. Your family and friends are supportive and should be, but they will not tell you that a verse is not supporting your chorus. The intent of this group is to be a safe place to improve each other’s skills as a songwriter and offer ideas when we become stuck. As a group that endeavors to make us better songwriters, we embrace the idea of the rewrite and try to offer tangible feedback on songs presented to the group.

EVENT: You can perform a track or use screen share and play a recorded track. The group will give you feedback on your song (constructive). This is not a showcase but instead a critque from your peers. It is hard to find a place where you can get honest feedback. And especially difficult to get that feedback from someone who can understand the process of creating a song. The purpose of this group is to provide that kind of feedback in a kind manner.

During the Zoom call, please be ready to tell us what you would like us to focus on. If you are interested in feedback on lyrics or music or both. If you are interested in lyric feedback then you should have typed lyrics ready. You can send the lyrics to the group moderator or share your desktop.

Please familiarize yourself with the “share screen” green button at the bottom of the Zoom screen so you can have your lyrics ready when called on – You click on the Green Share Screen button – then at the bottom left (before you share screen) you click the share computer sound box, then you share the screen you are using. You can post your lyrics up on the screen and play your song – try to keep your lyrics on one page so we can read without scrolling.

As a listener, you should make notes while the song is playing to offer to the writer when the song is over. The moderator will call out each person so that all have a chance to offer a minute or two of feedback. Those giving feedback should be sensitive that these are works in progress and those seeking input should be aware that the purpose of the review is to make a song better. If you think you have the song the way you want it, then maybe you would prefer to bring that song to a song circle that is more of a showcase and that does not offer comments.
